I am a professional helicopter pilot, husband and father (not in that order). My hobbies have always included painting, (oil on canvas for friends) and fishing. I decided to venture into painting crank baits for friends and co-workers. Suddenly I have custom baits spread throughout the entire country including Puerto Rico! I have received a lot of compliments and support from friends and family, so I have decided to establish a small Idaho based business.
My painted baits are for use on a huge variety of fish species from Peacock Bass to Northern Pike, but what about the fish that I want to target in Idaho? What about those tasty, but hard to catch Kokanee and happy accidental Rainbows? I have used a vast array of dodgers and lures to target Kokanee, then decided I needed to adjust and improve my chances by painting my own dodgers. I found a way to incorporate bright glow that won't clog my airbrush and started messing with the actual dodgers and ultimately decided to design my own. After much research and deliberation with my now business partner Kevin and a lesson in CAD drafting by our friend Scott we were able to produce some prototypes. A Utah based company called OshCut was able to upload and provide the precise cuts of metal I wanted. The test results have been outstanding, and we are pleased to present the MK3 Original, Chub, and all the other handcrafted goodies we make!
Happy fishing,
Jake
I am also a professional helicopter pilot, husband and father. In my youth I spent most of my time in the great outdoors playing with dirt bikes and jeeps. I eventually moved to Idaho, started a family and began to realize that if I was going to teach my kids how to hunt and fish then I probably needed to learn for myself. So, I started researching laws, regulations and watching YouTube shows like Addicted, and Split Milt. I had a pretty good idea of how to catch fish in our local rivers and was a successful turkey hunter by the time my friend Jake decided to rig up his old gear and join me. His dad sold us his boat and I did what I do best! I practically rebuilt the 10HP motor and modified many aspects of the boat so Jake and I could set out to explore the local lakes and see what we could catch. I’ll admit I knew little about Kokanee fishing at first, but both Jake and I knew that Idaho is in the “Silver Triangle” and that Kokanee fishing was supposed to be very good here. The fishing was slow in the beginning, and we started to obsess over every aspect of Kokanee fishing, how they see the world, what they eat, what temperature they like, seasonal behaviors, and most importantly what attracts them? I decided to start making my own bait and tie my own lures, while Jake decided to start painting dodger blanks. Eventually this led us to where we are now!
We are experiencing great success and look forward to sharing it with you!
Kevin
